Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels Mayor Nickels Hosts State Summit and Forms Coalition to Reduce Gun Violence
December 3, 2007 - Coalition Mayor Greg Nickels of Seattle hosted a summit of representatives from communities around Washington State to form a partnership to reduce gun violence in the state. Over 160 Participants discussed a number of issues from gun violence risk factors to state legislative proposals.

May 2 - Mayor Sheila Dixon announced a comprehensive strategy to curb the trafficking and possession of illegal guns in Baltimore, MD. The key elements of the strategy include an illegal gun taskforce, legislation to create a gun offender registry, and the creation of GunStat to track gun crimes.

April 18 - At an event hosted by Mayor Healy of Jersey City, NJ, the bi-partisan coalition of Mayors Against Illegal Guns unveiled a television advertisement that seeks the repeal of the "Tiahrt Amendment." The ad is the newest part of the www.protectpolice.org media campaign launched by the coalition, which has now grown to more than 210 members from more than 40 states.

Coalition Launches Media Campaign in Minneapolis Coalition Launches Media Campaign in Minneapolis
April 17 - Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak today joined Chaska, MN Police Chief Scott Knight and other metro area mayors and police chiefs to announce the launch of a new national media campaign featuring Chief Knight in a new video and advertisements, explaining how the federal Tiahrt Amendment prevents police from being able to effectively address gun crime.

April 12 - Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory and thirteen other mayors from Ohio and Kentucky enlisted in the coalition and joined New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg in announcing the the launch of a new media campaign about access to gun trace data.

Mayor Street hosts mayors from Philadelphia region to discuss gun violence Coalition Members Meet In Philadelphia
March 30 - Mayors from cities in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware gathered in Philadelphia to discuss strategies for addressing gun violence in the region. The mayors heard from law enforcement experts and shared information on what their cities are doing to combat the flow of illegal guns.

More than 50 members of Mayors Against Illegal Guns met in Washington, DC for the coalition's 2007 National Summit on Tuesday, January 23. Mayors from 27 states and the District of Columbia gathered on Capitol Hill to shine a spotlight on the problem of illegal guns flowing into America's cities.
