March 3, 2008 - Jacksonville Mayor John Peyton and the coalition hosted the Florida Conference of Mayors Against Illegal Guns in Jacksonville, Florida. At the conference, 15 mayors from all around Florida gathered with criminal justice experts, New York and Florida state representatives, and community leaders to address the economic costs of gun violence, the role state legislatures play in addressing the proliferation of illegal guns, identifying funding solutions to pay for programs, and the importance of community involvement in combating illegal gun crimes. Also at the conference, the coalition announced 20 new Florida members as well as a new coalition of State Legislators Against Illegal Guns.
