On April 14, 2008, Mayors Against Illegal Guns held the
coalition's 2008 national summit in Washington, DC.
Mayors and other representatives from cities around the
country gathered to shine a spotlight on the problem of illegal guns flowing
into America's cities.
Mayors unveiled a new television advertisement drawing
attention to the bipartisan common ground that exists between all 3 presidential
candidates when it comes to protecting Americans from crimes committed with
illegal guns.

Wal-Mart and the bi-partisan coalition announced at the
summit that Wal-Mart, the largest seller of firearms in the nation, has adopted
the new Responsible Firearms Retailer Partnership, a 10-point code that will
help ensure that guns do not fall into the wrong hands.
Mayors also proposed common sense ways to improve the
enforcement of federal laws designed to keeps guns out of the hands of
criminals, discussed ideas for new state laws to help fight illegal gun
trafficking and gun crime, and shared information about effective local policies
and enforcement strategies in their cities.
