Duncanson joins illegal gun coalition

MIDDLETOWN - The day after someone fired a gun on a Middletown city street, Middletown Mayor Marlinda Duncanson Wednesday announced she had joined... "Mayors Against Illegal guns" program.

Duncanson said it is "essential" to punish criminals who possess, use, and/or traffic illegal guns.

And, she said she supports an effort to place indentifying marks on individual firearms.

"The micro-stamping is when gun manufacturers will print the serial number on the guns and then they also begin - probably in a yare or two - inserting a serial number on the firing pin inside the barrel, so that every time the gun is fired, a tiny stamp would appear on the casings," she said.

Duncanson said she would oppose all federal efforts to restrict cities' rights to access, use or share trace data that is essential to effective
