Indianapolis Democratic Mayoral Candidate Melina Kennedy has announced a plan to combat illegal guns.
Kennedy says she has a five-point plan to stop the trafficking and use of illegal guns.
Kennedy says the the city needs to join the National Coaltion Against Illegal guns, which 500 mayors have joined in the country.
She says she would advocate for tougher mechanisms to make sure those who have a criminal history are added to a national database to keep them from being able to purchase guns.
Education and gun buyback programs are other parts of her plan.
Kennedy's final point is "I would advocate for punishment to the maximum extent for criminals who possess, traffic, or illegally use guns to send the message that will not be tolerated in our community."
